Mission Integration
Goals
To
provide men and women with a liberal education
The university seeks to develop the foundations
of thought, perception, and feeling as mechanisms
necessary for discerning the true from the false,
and for preparing students for a multi-dimensional
social, spiritual and professional life style.
To
prepare men and women for selected careers
The university seeks to use liberal education
as a supportive basis for career choices. It develops
a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge compatible
with the progressive technical and managerial
needs of employers, while eliciting dialogue concerning
issues that define a transcultural world.
To
provide for intellectual growth by an open, questioning,
and reasoned approach to learning.
The university is guided by academic freedom
and the responsibility that accompanies such freedom.
It builds on the rights and responsibilities of
free inquiry by striving to create opportunities
for exposure to national and international thought
and scholarship.
To
provide a forum for a consideration of the transcendent
and the ultimate questions of human existence.
The university promotes the development
of critical thinking, and the accompanying insights
into spiritual understanding through its continual
pursuit of truth.
To
provide personalized education for the individual
The university recognizes the full individuality
of each student and seeks to integrate all components
of the personality including intellectual, moral,
spiritual, creative, physical, and social -- into
a competent whole person who will continue to
grow in wisdom, grace and knowledge.
To
provide a healthful living environment which is
purposeful and interactional and which leads the
learner to attain new insights.
The university institutes and promotes
programs to maintain healthful living, a safe
and secure learning environment, and personal
and educational integration. Each campus and university
site fosters balanced opportunities for spiritual,
moral, and intellectual growth.
To
provide an educational experience which embodies
the Christian and franciscan elements of peace
and compassion for one's neighbor.
The university promotes and practices
the principles of a Catholic and Franciscan institution.
It maintains an atmosphere respectful of all members
of the university community regardless of their
religious affiliation and seeks to pursue the
linkage between faith, service, culture and justice.
