The Art & Design department relocated to Joliet’s City Center in the fall of 2009. This state-of-the-art facility is unmatched in the region. The program offers dedicated spaces for ceramics, digital arts, graphic design, photography, printmaking, studio arts, and video editing.
In addition, upper level studio art majors have access to individual studios via an annual selection process. This aspect allows studio art majors to develop serious work in an environment that prepares the individual for graduate studies or to work in the fine art’s industry.
The Rialto Square Theatre building that houses the Art and Design Department is in the midst of Joliet’s City Center and is just steps away from the Metra (Rock Island) Union Station. The 14,000 square feet of newly renovated contrast traditional architecture with modern design. This art-specific space has an open floor plan to produce diverse relevant art and design.
Specifically, the Art & Design Department offers 2 graphic design labs running the Adobe Creative Suite (the industry standard), a large format printing lab for design and photography output, a wet darkroom for photo printing, video editing systems using Final Cut Pro, a ceramics area for wheel-throwing, and a fully outfitted wood shop. These spaces provide the ideal atmosphere for serious students interested in producing quality contemporary art and design.
