Endorsement Areas

Teacher candidates add endorsements to their Professional Educator License upon the completion of specified courses and required ISBE exams. The following endorsements are available:

 

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Theoretical Foundations of Teaching ESL (4)
Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL (4)
Assessment of the Bilingual Student (3)
Cross Cultural Studies for Teaching Limited-English Proficient Student (3)
Linguistics (4)

 

Bilingual Education

Theoretical Foundations of Teaching ESL and Bilingual (4)
Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL (4)
Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Students (3)
Assessment of the Bilingual Student (3)
Cross Cultural Studies for Teaching Limited-English Proficient Student (3)
Bilingual Elective (1)

 

Middle School

Psychology & Development of the Middle School Child (3)
Middle School Philosophy, Curriculum & Instruction (3)

*A middle school endorsement may be earned in the following content areas: Language Arts, Math, General Science, Social Science, Art and Music. An additional 18 semester hours are required within the endorsement content area. Contact your advisor for further Information and specific requirements.

This endorsement will no longer be available after December 31, 2017. Requirements must be completed, applied for and recorded in the candidate’s ELIS (ISBE) account by January 31, 2018.
