Welcome USF Class of 2012

The University of St. Francis has opened the 2008-09 academic year with wonderful news: a strong student enrollment and repeated top tier ranking in the U.S. News & World Report’s edition of “America’s Best Colleges.”

  • Classes began the week of Aug. 25 and we are pleased to welcome 207 freshmen to our Joliet campus. The Class of 2012 began orientation on Aug. 20 by lighting the class candle and taking part in a class photograph on the stairs of the historic Motherhouse, just as new members of our founding congregation did. After a picnic lunch and saying good bye to parents, the freshman class got down to the business of transitioning to college life and academics. Click here to view orientation photo album.
  • Our new freshman class is primarily pursuing studies in nursing, biology, elementary education and business administration. Their average ACT score was 22.38 and average GPA in high school was 3.23.
  • Transfer students also arrived early to campus for orientation. We welcomed 147 transfer students from almost 50 community and other colleges. Again, nursing, elementary education and biology are the top choices of study. The average age of our transfer students is 23.5.
  • The USF family includes 461 adult students seeking to complete their undergraduate degrees or master’s degrees. These new students, from 28 states, attend classes at satellite locations, online or both. The average age of our adult students is 37.7.
  • At USF’s Albuquerque, N.M. site, 29 students have begun work toward their master of science Physician’s Assistant Studies degree. These students will develop close relationships among themselves and with faculty as they proceed through this rigorous program. The average age of these students is 30. Twelve students from the state of New Mexico joined the program, along with 17 students from other states.

We are pleased to welcome all of our students—new and returning—to a new academic year that begins with celebrating the university’s ranking, for the fifth consecutive year, as a top tier institution in U.S. News and World Report “America’s Best Colleges” ranking of Midwestern master’s colleges and universities 2009 listing. Along with the U.S. News and World Report ranking, the University of St. Francis is again noted as one of the best colleges in The Princeton Review’s “Best Colleges: Region by Region,” which describes USF as offering "a quality education in a safe and warm learning environment,” according to undergraduate students.

The years spent at USF—whether an on-campus student, off-campus student or online student, undergraduate, degree-completion or graduate student—are a time of growth, spiritually, personally and intellectually.

Welcome to the University of St. Francis community of learners.
