The Outstanding Recent Alumni Award
Erica Lucik, '01
Erica Lucik (M.Ed. Secondary Certification/English, ‘01) is in her seventh year teaching at Martino Junior High School, where she teaches government and career education and organizes the annual Career/Reality Fair. The Outstanding Recent Alumni Award recipient is active in many local organizations and works hard to give students the opportunity to give back to the community.
In 2003, she founded the Martino Junior High Community Service Organization, which presently has more than 55 junior high students regularly involved and committed to helping others. Last year, Lucik and Martino Junior High received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, an award established by President Bush in 2002.
In addition, 16 students received various levels of the award for individual community service. Lucik’s organization has already helped nine area agencies and is committed to assist with Operation Care Package, The New Lenox Township Food pantry and the special census for New Lenox.
During the summer, Lucik is activities director for Jellystone Park in Wisconsin. She also is a member of New Lenox & Will County Democrats, the Illinois Democratic Women's Organization and is the facilitator of the Will & Grundy County Education to Careers committee. Lucik’s recent awards include: 2006 Outstanding Jaycee Frankfort Area, 2006 Illinois Jaycee for July, 2006 Outstanding Jaycee Northeast Region, 2005 Who's Who Among American Teachers, New Lenox School District 122 Those Who Make a Difference Award and 2005 Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Illinois Citation of Achievement for her participation in their Legislative Program. She is married and has two children.
