1946 Anna Louise Masching represented the Retired Teachers Association of Livingston County, of which she is past president and foundation chairman, at their convention in Springfield, IL this October. Anna taught for 27 years and substituted for another 10. She was also church organist for over 50 years. She and her husband, Clarence, a retired self-employed carpenter, live in Pontiac.

1959 Anna Marie (DiMonte) Bates and her husband, Jack, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last February, enjoying a luncheon at the Bolingbrook Golf Club as well as a blessing ceremony at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Anna is a retired teacher/administrator and Jack is retired from the Veteran’s Administration. The couple has three children and nine grandchildren and they reside in Joliet, IL.


1977 Sr. Jeanne Bessette was recently selected to become the first president of a newly formed high school in Cincinnati called De Paul Cristo Rey, which is administered by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.

 


1980 Francine Tolf has recently written a memoir about growing up in Joliet that is coming out later this year (Joliet Girl, North Star Press of St. Cloud). North Star will also be publishing her first full-length collection of poems, Rain, Lillies, Luck. Francine has three shorter poetry collections already published, two from Pudding House Press and one from Plan B Press. She will be doing readings in Joliet once her books are published.

1980 Susan Zydek-Zupanic and husband, Gary, currently live in Nevada. Susan has taught in the Clark County School District in Nevada for 24 years and received several distinguished educator awards. Susan is also a prominent member of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, serving a recent 2-year term as President.

1981 Craig R. Herkert has been named the new CEO of Supervalu Inc., the parent company of Jewel-Osco grocery stores. Craig, who has more than 30 years of retail experience, had most recently served as president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s Americas region. Craig currently resides in Florida.


 

1983, ‘86 Janice McCoy was named Chief Nursing Officer at Sebastian River Medical Center. She was previously VP of Patient Care Services for 19 years at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, FL. Jan earned her Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2006. She is currently the State Liaison for USF and the state of Florida and taught classes for USF in Melbourne, FL. Jan and her husband, Dave, live on Merritt Island, FL.



1984 Pamela Madai Barner was commissioned to create a life-size bronze sculpture of a woodhick (lumberjack) for the river walk along the Susquehanna River in Williamsport, PA. Pam and her husband, Chad, live in Muncy, PA.

1986 Vincent F. Cornelius was installed as President of the Illinois Bar Foundation. Vince is the first black foundation president and will serve a 2-year term. He earned his J.D. degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1989. Vince has served on USF’s Board of Trustees since 2005. He and his wife, Zina, have two children and live in Naperville.

1990 Nita J. Kasan was appointed Chief Nursing Officer for The College Network where she will serve as a nursing education advocate applying her years of experience with direct patient care, teaching, nursing administration and consulting to TCN’s corporate customers and partners. Nita resides in Bradenton, FL.

1991 Kelly (McArdle) Anderlik is happily harried to husband Mike for 16 years. Kelly has 3 boys: David (14), John (10) and Brent (6). Kelly is currently working for McHenry Elementary School District as an Insurance Benefits/Facilities Coordinator.

1991 Danielle (Briscoe) Morrissette and husband, Matthew, welcomed their second child, Allison Grace, born in July 2008. The couple also has an 8 year-old daughter, Emily. The family resides in Manhattan, IL.

1991 LT Cmdr. Gregory J. Popp, USN was recently mobilized on one year orders to Iraq. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and selected for a new job as Aide de Camp for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Multi-National Force-Iraq. As a civilian, Greg works as a Postal Inspector – Criminal Investigator. He was also mobilized during his last semester at USF in 1990 for Operation Desert Storm/Shield, but as a Marine. He and wife, Amy ‘99 MED Elementary Education, have two children, William (10) and Catherine (8). Greg will be representing the university wearing his USF baseball cap during the Sunday evening Collegiate Baseball Hat Night held each week at the Combined Intelligence Operations Center where he works. The Popp family resides in Plainfield, IL.

1993 Joseph S. Watson received a Doctorate of Divinity from Cambridge Theological Seminary in Byesville, Ohio in December 2009. He resides in Clarksville, MS.

1996 Kym McKay earned her MS in Sport Management from Western Illinois University in August, 2008. Kym also recently signed a 4-year extension as the head volleyball coach at WIU. She has coached for 8 years and earned Mid-Continent Coach of the Year honors in 2005.

1997 Nancy L. (Smith/Barraclough) Southcott is currently working as a Mental Health Community Services Manager for Avon & Wiltshire Partnership in the UK where she relocated to in 2004. Nancy married Wayne Southcott in 2006 and have a baby daughter, Hope, born in 2007. Nancy lives in Portishead, Bristol, UK.

1998, ‘07 Timothy E. Archer, Director of Information & Administrative Services at USF has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Jasig Organization, an international consortium of educational institutions and commercial affiliates sponsoring open source software projects for higher education. The organization supports and promotes open source software design, development, and implementation. Jasig also fosters collaboration within and among communities in the higher education field. Tim currently lives in Aurora with his wife, Anne (Boeker) ‘98, and 7 month-old daughter, Adelai.

1998 Jeffry L. White published a book called Needs Assessment: Analysis and Prioritization through Sage Publications (2010).

1999 Melissa (Macaruso) Belda and her husband recently welcomed their child, Malayna Terese, on September 12, 2009. Malayna was 8 lbs 10 oz, 19.5 inches.

2000 Mary Beth (Wason) Ross married John Ross on November 15, 2008 at St. Francis of Assisi in Bolingbrook, IL. The couple honeymooned in Hawaii. Mary Beth works as a Maternal Child Registered Nurse at Rush University Medical Center. John is a Firefighter/Paramedic employed by the City of Aurora. The happy couple resides in Bolingbrook, IL.


2000 Catherine L. Vandre graduated in December 2008 with a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her focus of research was in Genetics and Molecular Biology and in November 2008 she published a first author paper in Genetics, the academic journal. Her dissertation is “Molecular and Genetic Analysis of the Role of Ku in Silencing and Telomere Function in S.cerevisiae.” During her graduate career, Katie spent 3 months in Santa Cruz, CA, where she collaborated with Rohinton Kamakaka at the University of California. Katie enjoys time playing with her 3 week-old niece and resides in Mendota, IL.

 


2001 David Klotz is currently pursuing a passion in graphic design and is the co-owner of MarketME Designs located in Chicago. David currently resides in Posen, IL.


 

2001 Michael J. McGreal, chef, and chair of Joliet Junior College’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department, was named 2009 Educator of the Year by the Foodservice Educators Network International. He has also published an award-winning textbook, “Culinary Arts Principles and Applications,” for which he received the Gold Ribbon Accolade for instructional literature text in May. Michael’s wife, Brigitta, who teaches culinary arts at Bolingbrook High School, earned top honors when she was named Illinois Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year. The couple lives in Orland Park, IL.



2001 Sean McKay and wife Cindy welcomed their first child, Olivia Grace, on March 2, 2009.


2003 Jeana Bain and husband, J. Brian Bain, Jr. ‘02 welcomed their second child, Bryce Carter, born April 28. Bryce weighed 8 lbs. and is 20 inches long. Jeana and Brian report that Jackson, their first born, loves his new buddy. The Bain’s live in Joliet, IL.

 


2003 Lisa Beth (Donley) Collett and William M. Collett were married in a candlelight ceremony at Di Nolfo’s in Homer Glen on June 20, 2008. They honeymooned in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The newlyweds reside in Joliet, IL.

2003 Julia Copeland is currently working for Hinshaw and Culbertson LLP, a large litigation defense firm in Chicago. Julia’s true interests lie in the arts, and she is currently pursuing a MFA at Coddard College. Julia currently writes poetry and non-fiction and is the Lead Cross Genre Editor for the college’s literary journal. Julia is also currently performing improv in the Second City Conservatory with her ensemble, Sunday Meatloaf.

2003, ‘06 Laura A. (DeZee) Koga has been named university Registrar at USF. Laura just completed her tenth year at USF. She began her career with the university in June 1999 working for the College of Health Arts. She then joined the registrar’s office in the fall of 1999. After completing her bachelor’s degree in May 2003, Laura was appointed as assistant registrar, and in 2005, began serving as associate registrar. In December 2008, she assumed the position of Interim Registrar and has also taught as adjunct faculty. Laura has been active in IACRAO, the professional association of registrars within our state. Laura married in 2008 and lives in Plainfield, IL.

2003 Sarah M. (Duderstadt) Norton married Michael Norton on May 16, 2009. They currently reside in the San Francisco bay area. Sarah continues to work as a nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit. Her husband, Michael, works in law enforcement for a local sheriff’s office.


 

2004 Beverly George recently completed her advanced degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Currently, Beverly lives in Carol Stream and works as an infusion nurse.



2004 Vanessa (Dettore) Madden married Jacob Madden on October of 2007. They currently reside in Plainfield and are expecting their first child in February of 2010. Vanessa has been working for the Woodridge Park District as a Recreation Supervisor since May of 2005. She has also been active in the Illinois Parks and Recreation School-Age/Day Camp Committee while working for the Park district.

 


2004 Patricia Orvis has published her first novel, SPUD, a young adult fictional work. She has also written a short essay which is part of a summer anthology called Fine Lines. The books are available at many retailers as well as through the publisher at writelife.com. Patricia teaches in Plainfield and lives in Joliet, IL.

2005 Sarah (Haldeman) Puleo married Paul Puleo on August 15, followed by a honeymoon in Aruba. The couple lives in Shorewood, IL.

2006 Amanda (Rymsza) Brown married Erik Brown on October 11, 2008 at St. Mary Nativity Church in Joliet. The couple honeymooned in Maui and Oahu. Erik is an accountant for the City of Lockport and Amanda is a registered nurse employed by the Family Medical Group. The couple resides in Joliet, IL.

2006 Michael Clay recently graduated with a Master’s of Arts in Elementary Education from Chicago State University and currently teaches in the Chicago public school system. Currently, Michael resides in Chicago, IL.

2006 Michael James Marzec and Candace Gene Carusi celebrated their second anniversary. The couple was married in the Cathedral of St. Raymond on October 19, 2007. They currently reside in Chicago, IL.

2006 Katie (Nelson) Clayton married to Kevin Clayton in November 2006. Katie has 3 children; Abigayle (2.5), Nate (13 months), and Hannah (1 month) who was born on November 30, 2009. The wonderful family is currently living in the Indianapolis area.

2006 Kevin C. Smith married Jacquelyn A. Mrowczynski October 18, 2008 at St. Mary Immaculate Church in Plainfield. The reception was held at St. George Social Center in Joliet. Jacquelyn has a degree in Business Administration and is employed by Southern Wine and Spirits in Bolingbrook as a staff accountant. Kevin is currently employed by Harris Bank in New Lenox where he is a Commercial Credit Underwriter. The happy couple resides in Crest Hill, IL.


2007 David Masciotra is an author and cultural critic. He just had his first book published entitled Working On a Dream: The Progressive Political Vision of Bruce Springsteen. The book release party will be at the Chicago Street Pub in downtown Joliet on Feb. 20th. David has written for Z Magazine, The Humanist, The Catholic Worker, and PopMatters. He has also written for several Chicago area newspapers, including the Herald News in Joliet, IL, where he was a weekly political columnist.

 


2008 Julie A. Dahl, former Head of Public Service for the library at USF, has relocated to Charleston where she is working at the College of Charleston. She is doing data analysis in the Registrar’s office and will be helping them implement Banner. Julie is enjoying the atmosphere of the college campus which is located in the historic downtown area of Charleston, SC.

2008 Amanda E. Pisut married John J. Derby, IV on June 20, 2009 at Saint Michael Church in Wheaton. Amanda is a Neuro RN at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn and John is an account executive for an international steel company.

2008 Joseph E. Ryan recently began working as an Assistant Media Producer for Exelon. In addition to working on all of the internal video and print media, Joe creates pamphlets and internal broadcasts. He is responsible for a quarterly live broadcast with the CEO’s as well. He has been accepted into DePaul’s Digital Cinema graduate program and will begin working toward his masters with an option for MFA very soon. Joseph lives in Joliet, IL.

2008 Jill M. Southcomb and Brad M. Wieher ‘08 were united in marriage on July 24 in the chapel at USF. The happy couple lives in Joliet, IL.

2008 Stephanie L. Stefanich and Jonathan Eggman were married this past October at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Joliet. A reception followed at Ashton Place in Willowbrook. The happy couple honeymooned in Nassau, Bahamas, and currently resides in Shorewood, IL.

2009 Anthony J. Morelli has begun a new position as Youth Director for Dupage Township. According to Lyle Hicks, Chairman of USF’s Recreation, Sport and Tourism Management Department, Anthony is a great young man and will be a shining star in the Recreation profession. Congratulations Anthony! Anthony lives in Bolingbrook.

2009 Jacquelyn A. Uphoff has started a new job with Lan Oak Park District where she will serve as a Recreation Supervisor. Jackie lives in Kankakee, IL.
