MBA anticipated

As an Active/Guard Reserve soldier and father of three, time might be hard to come by. And, going back to school for a second master’s degree may seem just impossible. But, Maj. Brian Lamont Thomas is doing it all.

“I enrolled in the MBA program to compliment my current Masters in Health Services Administration because I have been told by several medical professionals that you need the business side of health services,” said Thomas.

Since USF offers the entire program online, it was an opportunity he said he could not pass up. After completing his first MBA class in the spring 2009, Thomas learned he was being deployed to Afghanistan and was even more determined to continued with his studies. The biggest challenge on working toward a degree while deployed, he said, is working with slow bandwidth.

“Sometimes at night it is almost impossible to log in,” Thomas said, but he noted that the professors are more than accommodating of his situation. Thomas plans to retire from the military in four years after having been involved for 22.

“I want to be at the same level or higher than the competition when I go out in to the civilian job market in four years,” Thomas said. He hopes that this second master’s degree will make him more marketable. “I have truly had a great experience with USF,” Thomas said. “I would not hesitate recommending USF to anyone.”
