Q: Why did you choose USF?
A: “My family was suffering some economic issues when I graduated (from high school) so receiving a scholarship was an important factor in my decision. Before committing to USF, I received a birthday card from the school. I thought the effort they put forth in sending out a card to all potential students means they want us to know they care about us as people and not just numbers. It made a difference, and 20-plus years later I haven’t forgotten about the day I received it.”

Q: How did your major prepare you for your profession?
A: “I studied to become a CPA at USF. Even though I now practice law, I am constantly drawing on my tax and accounting background to solve the financial problems associated with a client’s legal challenges. I enjoying bringing both skill sets to bear on the problem to find a practical solution.”

Q: In what ways have you personally benefited from attending USF?
A: “While USF provided me an Ivy League level of education—in my opinion, it also provided me with a family of caring individuals who have been with me since graduation. I can still walk through the hallways at USF 20 years after graduation and several teachers still know my name. I would say that the great majority of Harvard graduates are unable to say the same about their alma mater.”

Q: Do you have any advice for students considering USF?
A: “Search your feelings to determine what will best suit your personality and learning habits. Then consider costs, scholarship availability and proximity to your loved ones. Develop a list of your top five schools, research your program area if you know it and then visit the schools when you have plenty of time and are not in a rush. Enjoy the process.”

Q: Please complete the phrase, “USF is…”
A: “USF is . . . more than just bricks, books, facilities, grass and trees; it is a place where you explore what matters to you surrounded by a caring family of teachers, administrators and staff whose main purpose is to help you fulfill your dreams of obtaining a well rounded education and life experience.”
