GARNERS SCHOLAR-ATHLETE HONOR

University
of St. Francis senior third baseman Bill
Sawisch (Joliet Catholic Academy/Bolingbrook,
IL) has been named to the Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar-Athlete team for his success both on
the field and in the classroom.
Sawisch,
who led USF in hitting this past season, graduated
in May with a 3.56 grade point average in finance.
Sawisch
was named to the all-Chicagoland Collegiate
Athletic Conference honorable mention list at
the conclusion of this past season. The senior
third sacker led the Saints in hitting with
a .348 batting average and 16 stolen bases in
18 attempts. He started 53 games at third base
and placed second on the team in total hits
(62), third in doubles (8), fourth in RBI (26,
despite being the leadoff hitter), fourth in
walks (20) and second in number of times being
hit by a pitch (15).
USF
concluded the 2006 season with a 32-26 record
and placed second in both the CCAC regular-season
standings and the NAIA Region VII Championship
tournament behind Saint Xavier.
In
order to be selected to the scholar-athlete
team, the student needs to be a junior or senior,
have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet
certain statistical standards set forth by the
sport.
