January 16, 2006

University of St. Francis head baseball coach Gordie Gillespie received the Bill Veeck Lifetime Achievement Award at the 60th Annual Pitch & Hit Club Banquet held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., Sunday night.

Gillespie, college baseball’s all-time winningest coach and a member of 15 different Halls of Fame, was recognized by the local baseball organization for his many accomplishments and contributions to the game of baseball.

Gillespie, who owns 1,677 victories as a collegiate head coach, returned to St. Francis this year after spending the past 10 seasons as head coach at NCAA Division III Ripon (WI). Gillespie took the reins at Ripon after "retiring" from St. Francis following the 1995 season.
