For
Immediate Release
January 16, 2006
Junior
linebacker Tom Olszta (Lockport HS/Lockport,
IL) and senior wide receiver Michael
Hall (Marquette HS/Ottawa, IL) have
been named 2005 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Hall earned the honor for the second
consecutive year and Olszta was named
for the first time.
Hall,
majoring in social studies/secondary education,
owns a 3.64 cumulative grade-point average
and has earned Deans List recognition
in each of his five semesters at St. Francis.
On the field this fall, he made the switch
from playing quarterback in 2004 to wide
receiver. He was the Saints fifth-leading
receiver with 16 catches for 127 yards in
nine games.
Olszta,
a finance major, has compiled a 3.83 cumulative
grade-point average. He, too, has earned
Deans List recognition in all five
of his semesters at St. Francis. He was
the Fighting Saints fourth-leading
tackler with 62 total stops, including 24
solo tackles. He forced two fumbles, had
two tackles for loss and was credited with
three pass deflections.
In
order to qualify for this award, the student-athlete
needs to be a junior or senior academically,
have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet certain
statistical standards on the field.
Hall
is just the third Saint to be honored two
times as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. USF has
now had 11 NAIA academic honorees in the
past 14 seasons.
