For Immediate Release
December 18, 2006

Five University of St. Francis football players were recently selected to the All-Mid-States Football Association Midwest League honor team after a vote by league coaches.

Sophomore offensive lineman Matt Boyce (Lockport Township H.s./Lockport, IL), sophomore wide receiver Jason Fiske (Belvidere H.S./Loves Park, IL), sophomore defensive back Pat Lenahan (Providence Catholic H.S./Homer Glen, IL), sophomore defensive back Clayton Norberg (Newman Central Catholic H.S./Sterling, IL) and sophomore linebacker Kevin Sanders (St. Edward H.S./Elgin, IL) all were named to the Midwest League honorable mention team.

Boyce anchored the USF offensive line in his first year as a full-time starter. At 296 pounds, he was biggest player on the Saints’ 2006 roster.

Fiske spent most of his season as a wide receiver but also returned to play quarterback during the middle of the season in relief of injured USF starter John Goolsby. Fiske was the Saints’ starting signal-caller as a freshman in 2005. He was USF’s second-leading receiver this past year, hauling in 33 receptions for 286 yards and one touchdown. He caught a USF single-game record 11 passes against Olivet Nazarene on Oct. 28. As a quarterback, he completed 36-of-63 passes for 361 yards and one touchdown.

Lenahan was the Saints’ second-leading tackler on the season with 82 stops, one tackle-for-loss, three pass deflections and one fumble recovery. He recorded a season-high 15 tackles, including 13 solos, in the season opener at St. Joseph’s (IN).

Norberg led USF in tackles for the second straight year. His 2006 total of 107 stops included 82 solo tackles and 25 assists. He added 10 tackles-for-loss, one sack, three pass deflections, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. The tackles-for-loss and fumble recoveries also represented team highs.

Sanders was USF’s third-leading tackler and the top tackler among the Saints’ linebacking corps. He finished 2006 with 71 total stops, including 49 solos and three tackles-for-loss. He also had a pass deflection and a fumble recovery.

Lenahan, Norberg and Sanders are all repeat winners from 2005. All three also earned MSFA honorable mention as freshmen.
