For Immediate Release
June 14, 2007

It may be 10 weeks before the 2007 high school football campaign kicks off, but gridiron fans won’t have to wait that long to find out what the upcoming season will present.

The first of three sneak previews begin Saturday and extend through Saturday, June 30 with the 12th Annual University of St. Francis Football Passing Jamboree.

A pair of 2006 state semifinalists, Providence Catholic (7A) and Lincoln-Way East (8A), will headline this week’s first session, which features 20 teams in all.

Joining Providence and the Griffins in Saturday’s morning session, which runs from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., will be area representatives Coal City, Lockport and Minooka. Others in the field include Aurora Central Catholic, Marian Catholic, Munster (Ind.), Richards and Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin.

In Saturday’s afternoon session (1 - 6 p.m.), local teams from Morris, Seneca and Wilmington will match up against the likes of Andrew, Bradley-Bourbonnais, Geneva and Harper, not to mention Marist Pontiac and Valparaiso (Ind.).

Coal City, Minooka, Providence, Aurora Central Catholic, Morris and Wilmington all return one week from Saturday for the second session (June 23). The former four will meet up with Joliet Catholic, Lemont and Lincoln-Way Central in the morning session, along with Naperville North, Oak Forest and St. Viator.

Reed-Custer joins Wilmington and Morris as an area representative in the afternoon on June 23. Those three teams will compete against the likes of Eisenhower, Hersey, Kankakee, Rich South, Carl Sandburg, Wauconda and Whitney Young.

Area fans can also see what lies ahead over the next two years for their favorite teams with Coal City, Joliet Catholic, Lincoln-Way East, Lockport, Morris and Providence Catholic, as well as Wilmington, Lincoln-Way Central, Reed-Custer and Seneca showcasing their sophomore and junior varsity teams in a separate session on June 30.

Each of the teams is slated to play four games during the day with each hour-long contest consisting of 25 offensive and 25 defensive plays.

Scores are not kept in the contests, which are played on 50-yard fields.

All games will take place at Pershing Fields, which is home to USF’s football practice facility. The football complex is located at 251 North Midland Avenue in Joliet, right next to Pershing Grade School.
