JOBE NAMED MSFA/MIDWEST LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For Immediate Release
October 24, 2006

University of St. Francis redshirt freshman running back Jeremiah Jobe (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) has been named the Mid-States Football Association/Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week after his contributions in USF’s 20-17 victory over Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday.

Jobe made his first career start and rushed for a game-high 104 yards on 25 carries. He scored his first career touchdown and averaged 4.2 yards per rush.

Prior to Saturday’s game, Jobe had appeared in four contests as a backup to starting tailback Gannon Novak (Providence Catholic H.S./New Lenox, IL). He had carried the ball 23 times for 91 yards in those four games.

Jobe got the start against Iowa Wesleyan after Novak moved to a starting spot in the USF defensive secondary, the position in which he excelled as a prep player at Providence Catholic. Like Novak did in his first collegiate start against St. Joseph’s (IN) back in September of 2005, Jobe topped the century mark in rushing yards.

Jobe’s big day helped the Fighting Saints earn their first victory of the year (1-6) and snap a 15-game losing streak. The win also ended a 26-game losing streak in MSFA/Midwest League play.

Jobe is the first Saint to win the weekly MSFA honor since placekicker/punter Nick Heberer (Washington H.S./Washington, IL) was named the conference and NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week after USF defeated Urbana (OH) in the second game of the 2005 season.
