SMITH, HOBSON, HACKSTOCK NAMED TO ALL-CCAC TEAM
For Immediate Release
February 26, 2006

Three University of St. Francis men’s basketball players have been selected to the all-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference team after a vote by league coaches.

Senior guard/forward Mike Smith (Shepard H.S./Chicago, IL) and junior forward Chris Hobson (Eisenhower H.S./Blue Island, IL) were both named to the CCAC’s first team. Senior forward Don Hackstock (Oak Lawn H.S./Bridgeview, IL) received honorable mention accolades.

Smith is a repeat selection from the 2005-06 team. He has led the Fighting Saints in scoring during each of his two years at St. Francis. He led the CCAC in scoring (19.3 points per game) as a junior one year ago and currently stands second in the conference with an average of 16.8 points per game. Smith also leads USF in rebounding (6.1 per game) and his 52 three-point baskets are more than triple the amount of the second-leading three-point shooter (Hobson, 17) on the Saints’ squad.

Hobson is completing his first year at St. Francis and is second on the club in scoring with a 14.7 points-per-game average. He is also second to Smith in rebounding (4.4 per game). Hobson came to USF from Moraine Valley Community College after starting his collegiate career at NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University.

Hackstock became a starter this season in his fourth year with the Saints. He ranks third on the club in both scoring (8.9 per game) and rebounding (3.5 per game), despite averaging slightly less than 23 minutes of playing time per contest. He leads USF in field goal percentage with a marksmanship of 51.7 percent.

The Saints finished the regular season with a 10-14 overall record and a 4-6 mark in the CCAC. USF, the CCAC tourney’s No. 4 seed, opens CCAC postseason tourney play Tuesday at home against No. 5 seed Indiana South Bend. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. and will follow a CCAC women’s quarterfinal contest between host USF and Purdue Calumet that tips off at 5:15 p.m.
