For Immediate Release
March 17, 2008
Three University of St. Francis men’s basketball players have been selected to the all-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference team after a vote by league coaches.
Senior guard/forward Chris Hobson (Eisenhower H.S./Blue Island, IL) and junior forward/center Rob Rabenau (Lincoln-Way Central H.S./New Lenox, IL) were both named to the CCAC’s first team. Junior point guard Jeremy Kreiger (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) received honorable mention accolades.
Hobson is a repeat selection from the 2006-07 team. He led the Fighting Saints and finished second in the CCAC in scoring with an average of 18.4 points per game. He scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games and topped the 20-point mark on 15 occasions. He notched a career-best 30 points in a 97-96 overtime loss at home against Hillsdale College on Dec. 17.
Rabenau came to USF from Lincoln College where he played for two seasons. He ranked second on the Saints with a scoring average of 11.5 points per game and was also second on the club with a .581 field goal shooting percentage. Rabenau excelled in the final two-and-one-half months of the season, scoring in double digits in 15 of his last 18 games. He scored a season-high 27 points in the final game of the regular season, an 88-73 win over CCAC rival Illinois Tech.
Kreiger transferred to USF this year after beginning his college career at St. Joseph’s College in Rennselaer, Ind. The Joliet Township product started all 29 games at point guard for USF and led the Saints in both rebounding (4.8 per game) and assists (3.8 per game). He pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds from his point guard spot in the Saints’ final game of the year, an 88-86 CCAC Tournament first-round loss at Indiana South Bend. He was also credited with a season-best eight assists in that loss at South Bend.
The Saints finished the season with a 10-19 overall record but eight of the 19 losses came by 10 points or less. USF finished in a tie for fourth place in the CCAC with IUSB, trailing only NAIA national tournament participants Robert Morris, Olivet Nazarene and Saint Xavier.
