USF PLAYERS VOTED TO
ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

Three
University of St. Francis mens basketball
players were recently selected to the
all-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference
team after a vote by league coaches.
Senior
forward Nick Cardone (Coal City H.S./Mazon,
IL) and junior guard Bob St. Leger
(Carl Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL)
earned first-team honors, while junior
guard Brian Zirkle (Bishop McNamara
H.S./Kankakee, IL) was named to the
honorable mention team.
Cardone,
who made the all-CCAC team the last two
seasons as well, finished fourth in the
conference in field goal percentage (.569),
fifth in free throw percentage (.806),
seventh in blocks per game (.70) and eighth
in scoring (15.5 points per game).
Cardone,
tabbed as one of the top-30 NAIA players
in the country by Street and Smith prior
to the start of the season, also averaged
4.9 rebounds per game and totaled 48 assists
and 18 steals in 30 games.
St.
Leger, an honorable mention all-conference
pick last year, was second among the Saints
this season in scoring (14.1 points per
game), assists (88), steals (39) and three-point
field goals made (38).
Zirkle,
in his first season at USF, established
himself as one of the top point guards
in the league, placing second in the conference
in assists per game (4.9), seventh in
steals per game (1.55), eighth in three-point
percentage (.403) and eighth in assist/turnover
ratio (1.73). Furthermore, he averaged
9.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
St.
Francis concluded the 2002-03 season with
a 20-11 record in addition to claiming
fourth place in the CCAC with a 9-5 mark.
The 20 wins were the most by a USF team
since 1991-92.
