ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
March 17, 2003

Three University of St. Francis men’s basketball players were recently selected to the all-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference team after a vote by league coaches.

Senior forward Nick Cardone (Coal City H.S./Mazon, IL) and junior guard Bob St. Leger (Carl Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) earned first-team honors, while junior guard Brian Zirkle (Bishop McNamara H.S./Kankakee, IL) was named to the honorable mention team.

Cardone, who made the all-CCAC team the last two seasons as well, finished fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.569), fifth in free throw percentage (.806), seventh in blocks per game (.70) and eighth in scoring (15.5 points per game).

Cardone, tabbed as one of the top-30 NAIA players in the country by Street and Smith prior to the start of the season, also averaged 4.9 rebounds per game and totaled 48 assists and 18 steals in 30 games.

St. Leger, an honorable mention all-conference pick last year, was second among the Saints this season in scoring (14.1 points per game), assists (88), steals (39) and three-point field goals made (38).

Zirkle, in his first season at USF, established himself as one of the top point guards in the league, placing second in the conference in assists per game (4.9), seventh in steals per game (1.55), eighth in three-point percentage (.403) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.73). Furthermore, he averaged 9.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

St. Francis concluded the 2002-03 season with a 20-11 record in addition to claiming fourth place in the CCAC with a 9-5 mark. The 20 wins were the most by a USF team since 1991-92.
