STORM, SMITH NAMED CCAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
For Immediate Release
February 13, 2007

University of St. Francis swept both the women’s and men’s basketball Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for the week of Feb. 6-10 with freshman guard/forward Jacqie Storm (Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) and senior guard Mike Smith (Shepard H.S./Chicago, IL) earning the recognition.

Storm won the honor for the second straight week and for the third time in her freshman season. She tallied a career-best 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Lady Saints’ only game of the week, a record-setting 119-118 loss to CCAC co-leader Olivet Nazarene Saturday at the USF Rec Center. Storm’s 33 points were the most by a Lady Saint in a single game since Diane Kowall notched 35 against Oakland City (IN) on Jan. 25, 1997 at the Rec Center. USF established a school record with 118 points and Olivet’s game total of 119 and first-half total of 69 were the most ever by a Saints opponent. Storm made 10-of-24 shots, including a school-record eight three-pointers in just 17 attempts. She also added five assists and one steal.

Smith led the Fighting Saints with 21 points and six rebounds in a 70-62 home upset of NAIA Division I No. 19 Olivet Nazarene. He canned 7-of-14 shots, including three treys, and made all four of his free throws as he helped the Saints keep their hopes alive for a top-three finish in the CCAC standings.

The Lady Saints currently stand 14-12 overall and are tied for third place with Robert Morris in the conference with a 5-3 CCAC mark. USF plays at Robert Morris Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the first half of a women’s/men’s doubleheader at the Loyola University Gentile Center in Chicago. The women’s game was postponed to Wednesday following Tuesday’s snowy conditions in the Chicago area.

The USF men are 9-12 overall and carry a 3-4 league mark to Chicago for Wednesday’s matchup with unbeaten and NAIA Division I No. 1-ranked Robert Morris. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
