University
of St. Francis junior utility player
Stacy Schultz (Romeoville H.S./Joliet,
IL) has been named the Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball
Player of the Week for the second time
this season after hitting .600 with
nine hits in 15 official at bats in
six games for the week ending Sunday,
April 30.
In
addition to hitting .600, Schultz
also extended her career-best hitting
streak to 20 games. The streak was in
danger of ending in the first game of
a doubleheader versus Cardinal Stritch
(WI) on April 26. Schultz had
to take a final exam that afternoon
and arrived for the game in the sixth
inning. She was credited with a sacrifice
bunt in her only plate appearance in
the game and her steak remained alive
since she did not have an official at
bat.
Schultzs
performance helped lead the Saints to
a 4-2 week as they ended their regular
season with a 24-20 mark. USF begins
play in the CCAC Championship tournament
on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. against
Trinity International at Olivet Nazarene
University in Bourbonnais. The double-elimination
tourney, featuring the top six teams
in the league, continues Thursday and
Friday with the top three finishers
earning berths in the following weeks
NAIA Region VII Championship tourney.
