THREE USF SENIORS NAMED NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
For Immediate Release
May 26, 2006

Three University of St. Francis senior softball players were recently voted to the 2006 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes team.

Pitcher Jenny Schade (Waubonsie Valley HS/Aurora, IL), center fielder Carrie Stoner (Yorkville HS/Yorkville, IL) and outfielder Jenny Lowery (Ottawa HS/Ottawa, IL), who represented USF’s entire senior class, all earned the national recognition.

Schade, who also earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition as a junior in 2005, recently graduated with a cumulative 3.82 grade point average in business management. On the field, Schade finished with a 6-10 pitching record and a team-high 17 starts on the mound. She led the pitching staff with 74 strikeouts. Schade also played in the outfield and occasionally served as the team’s designated player. She finished the season with a .250 batting average and 14 RBI.

Stoner started 44 of USF’s 48 games in center field and hit .259 with 15 RBI and a team-high 21 walks. She owns a 3.62 cumulative GPA and is majoring in both special education and math. She will complete her student-teaching next year and expects to graduate in May, 2007.

Both Schade and Stoner were also recently named to the prestigious Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Lowery’s playing time was limited this season due to her student-teaching commitments. She hit just .164 in 32 games but led the team’s outfielders defensively, committing only one error in the outfield for the year. Academically, Lowery finished her four years at USF with a 3.62 cumulative GPA and posted perfect 4.00 GPA’s in each of her final three semesters prior to her recent graduation.

In order to be selected as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, individuals need to be a junior or senior, have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet certain statistical standards set forth by the sport.

The Lady Saints concluded their season with a fourth-place finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Confernece tourney. USF finished with a 26-22 overall record and a 10-8 mark in regular-season CCAC play.
