THREE USF SENIORS
NAMED NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

Three
University of St. Francis senior softball
players were recently voted to the 2006
Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes team.
Pitcher
Jenny Schade (Waubonsie Valley HS/Aurora,
IL), center fielder Carrie Stoner
(Yorkville HS/Yorkville, IL) and
outfielder Jenny Lowery (Ottawa HS/Ottawa,
IL), who represented USFs
entire senior class, all earned the
national recognition.
Schade,
who also earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete
recognition as a junior in 2005, recently
graduated with a cumulative 3.82 grade
point average in business management.
On the field, Schade finished
with a 6-10 pitching record and a team-high
17 starts on the mound. She led the
pitching staff with 74 strikeouts. Schade
also played in the outfield and occasionally
served as the teams designated
player. She finished the season with
a .250 batting average and 14 RBI.
Stoner
started 44 of USFs 48 games in
center field and hit .259 with 15 RBI
and a team-high 21 walks. She owns a
3.62 cumulative GPA and is majoring
in both special education and math.
She will complete her student-teaching
next year and expects to graduate in
May, 2007.
Both
Schade and Stoner were
also recently named to the prestigious
Whos Who Among Students in
American Universities and Colleges.
Lowerys
playing time was limited this season
due to her student-teaching commitments.
She hit just .164 in 32 games but led
the teams outfielders defensively,
committing only one error in the outfield
for the year. Academically, Lowery
finished her four years at USF with
a 3.62 cumulative GPA and posted perfect
4.00 GPAs in each of her final
three semesters prior to her recent
graduation.
In
order to be selected as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete,
individuals need to be a junior or senior,
have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA
and meet certain statistical standards
set forth by the sport.
The
Lady Saints concluded their season with
a fourth-place finish in the Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Confernece tourney.
USF finished with a 26-22 overall record
and a 10-8 mark in regular-season CCAC
play.
