WATT NAMED CCAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
For Immediate Release
April 12, 2005

University of St. Francis redshirt freshman Kerri Watt (Lincoln-Way Central H.S./New Lenox, IL) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after playing a role in four of the Lady Saints’ six victories over the seven-day period ending on Sunday (April 10).

Watt, a right-hander, posted a 3-1 record with one save and a 0.76 earned run average in her five appearances covering 27.2 innings during the week. In that time, she struck out 14 batters, while yielding just one walk.

Watt earned complete-game victories over Calumet College (IN) on April 5 and Indiana Wesleyan University at USF’s own Spring Classic on April 9, while working the first six innings in a 7-5 second-game win over Robert Morris College on April 7. Earlier that day, she worked the final inning in a 2-1, eight-inning win over the Eagles for her second save of the season.

On April 8, Watt had a shutout going through the first seven innings of a scoreless deadlock with Iowa Wesleyan College before the Tigers scored two unearned runs off her in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 2-1.

Watt helped herself and the rest of the pitching staff offensively, as well, during the week, hitting .353 with six hits, including two doubles, in 17 at-bats between her time on the mound and as an outfielder. She also drove in two runs, while scoring twice herself.

Four of Watt’s hits came in her victories over Robert Morris and Indiana Wesleyan, where she posted two hits in each affair.

For the season, Watt boasts a team-best 2.21 earned run average to go along with her 6-4 record and .250 batting average.

By going 6-3 for the week, St. Francis bumped its overall record up to 16-13 on the season.
