GUSTAFSON, BOYCE NAMED CHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SETTER, PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Joliet, Ill. --- University of St. Francis senior setter Erica Gustafson (Downers Grove South HS/Darien, IL) and junior hitter Jill Boyce (Lockport HS/Lockport, IL) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Setter and Player of the Week, respectively. Gustafson has won the setting honors each of the first three weeks it has been presented in the 2005 season, while Boyce received the award for the first time this year.

Gustafson ran the offense for the Saints who completed a 4-1 week with a CCAC victory at Cardinal Stritch (WI) and a second-place finish in their own USF Invitational over the weekend. Gustafson rang up 160 assists in 453 attempts for a percentage of .353. She averaged 10.0 assists per game. She also contributed 22 kills in 55 tries for an average of 1.4 kills per game from her setter position.

Boyce led the Saints with 13 service aces in 86 attempts on the week for an average of .77 aces per game. She finished the week with a team-high six solo blocks and 13 block assists. Her total of 75 digs was the most by a non-defensive specialist on the Saints’ squad.

USF enters the week with a 15-4 overall mark and a 2-1 CCAC record. In addition to the win at Cardinal Stritch, the Saints posted tourney victories over Grand View (IA), Indiana Wesleyan and William Penn (IA) last weekend. USF’s lone loss was to Walsh (OH). The Saints were unranked in last week’s NAIA poll but were ranked 20th two weeks ago. USF regained the top spot in the Region VII ratings this week and awaits the national rankings which will be released on Wednesday (Sept. 21).

Head coach Cara Currier’s Saints travel to Elgin to meet conference rival Judson in a CCAC match on Tuesday evening in their only action of this week.
