For Immediate Release
January 15, 2007

JOLIET, Ill. -- University of St. Francis head volleyball coach Cara Currier has announced the signing of one high school senior and a transfer student for the 2007-08 season. USF also announces the addition of one transfer student to its women’s basketball program for this season.

Kyrsten Becker, a senior at Rolling Meadows High School, will enroll at St. Francis next fall and join the Saints’ volleyball program. Becker, an outside hitter who stands 5-10, was an honorable mention all-area selection by the Daily Herald this past season. She served as co-captain for the Mustangs and was named to the all-tournament team at the Harlem Invitational this past season. She also earned all-Mid Suburban League honors as a senior.

Courntey Ambrosch also signed a letter-of-intent and is enrolling at USF for this current spring semester. Ambrosch, a 2005 graduate of Joliet Township High School, attended Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., last year on a softball scholarship. At Joliet Township, Ambrosch earned varsity letters in both volleyball and softball. She was named her team’s most valuable player and served as team captain in volleyball as a senior in 2004. She was named all-area by the Herald News and earned all-SICA West recognition.

In addition to the two volleyball signees, the Saints have added one transfer student-athlete to its women’s basketball roster for this season.

Christine Walczak, a 2006 graduate of Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, comes to USF from the University of Chicago where she attended her first semester of college. Walczak did not play for the Maroons this season and was released from her scholarship at UC so she is immediately eligible to play for USF.

Walczak made her USF debut last Tuesday evening when she scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in the Saints’ 83-68 victory over Indiana University South Bend.

At Sandburg, Walczak was a teammate of current USF freshman Jacqie Storm. She and Storm helped lead the Eagles to a 23-12 finish and regional and sectional championships. Walczak averaged 14.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per game and earned all-conference recognition. She was also named all-area by the Daily Southtown and the Star. A 6-1 center, Walczak collected 22 double-doubles as a senior.
