KRISTINA YEDINAK NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE; BRITTANI HUNTER RECOGNIZED AS CCAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
For Immediate Release
February 27, 2006

Freshman guard Kristina Yedinak (Marquette HS/Ransom, IL) earned first-team all-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors to lead a group of five Lady Saints who were recognized in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

In addition to Yedinak earning her honor, fellow freshman guard Brittani Hunter (Lockport HS/Homer Glen, IL) led a group of four USF players who were named to the honorable mention list. Hunter capped off the USF list of honorees by being named the CCAC’s Freshman of the Year.

The other three Saints to earn honorable mention were senior guard/forward Kelly Pero (Joliet JC/Hobart HS/Crown Point, IN), sophomore center Clara Graham (Joliet Township HS/Joliet, IL) and freshman guard Amanda Mistretta (Maine East HS/Niles, IL).

Yedinak earned the first-team distinction after a highly successful freshman season. She led the CCAC in field goal percentage (.589), rebounding (8.0), assists (4.81) and minutes played (32.9). She finished 11th in the league in scoring (10.4 points per game). Yedinak’s season ended a little early when stomach problems sidelined her with two weeks left in the campaign and she will not play in the CCAC post-season tourney.

Hunter was arguably the Lady Saints’ most consistent player on the season. She was fourth on the club and 16th in the league in scoring (9.3) and fifth in the league in assists (3.5). She also averaged 3.6 rebounds per game from her point guard position.

Pero capped off her collegiate career by averaging a team-high 11.6 points per game and finished third in the CCAC in three-point field goals made per game (2.17).

Graham averaged 7.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and led the Saints with 36 blocked shots. She had a career-best 22 rebounds, one short of the school record, in a home win over Illinois Tech on Feb. 14.

Mistretta was USF’s third-leading scorer with an average of 9.8 points per game. She finished third in the conference in three-point shooting accuracy (.391, 34-87).

The Lady Saints open play in the CCAC postseason championship tourney on Tuesday night at home against Robert Morris. The Saints, 15-15 on the season, placed fourth in the final regular-season CCAC standings.

Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the USF Recreation Center.
