KATIE CARLS NAMED SEASON'S FIRST CCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For Immediate Release
November 6, 2007

One of two University of St. Francis players to score in double figures in a pair of season-opening victories for the Saints, sophomore guard Katie Carls (St. Bede's Academy/Spring Valley, Ill.) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Division I Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending November 4.

In averaging just 19 minutes of playing time per contest, Carls registered 12.0 points per game in victories over Calumet College of St. Joseph and Purdue University Calumet at the latter’s own Classic over the weekend.

Carls opened with a 13-point, 3-assist effort in only 16 minutes of USF’s 97-59 victory over Calumet St. Joseph on Friday.  One day later, she tallied 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist in just over 22 minutes of the Saints’ 107-68 win against Purdue Calumet.

Carls also shot 62 percent from the field (8-of-13), 4-of-6 from three-point range (67 pct.) and converted all but one of her five free throw attempts (80 pct.) in the two games combined.
