KATIE CARLS SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO ATTEND ST. FRANCIS

Katie Carls, the all-time leader in points, assists and steals at St. Bede Academy in Peru, Ill., has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of St. Francis and play basketball for the Lady Saints.

Carls, a 5-6 point guard, earned third team all-state recognition from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association each of the last two years and garnered honorable mention all-state accolades from both the Associated Press and the Champaign News Gazette. Her career marks at St. Bede include 1,471 points (16.2 average per game), 427 assists (4.7 per game) and 420 steals (4.0 per game). She was a two-time St. Bede Most Valuable Player and, despte playing point guard, led her team in rebounding as a junior.

"We are very happy to have a player of Katie’s caliber choosing to play for the University of St. Francis," said USF head coach Frank Kaminsky, who just completed his third season with the Saints. "The addition of Katie to last year’s freshmen class and our returning upperclassmen will put us in a position to compete both within our conference (Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) and at a national level."

Carls is scheduled to play in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All Star Game June 17 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.
