To quote a famous radio talk show host, it's the
way things ought to be! This practice of placing articles on
electronic reserve at the campus library is indeed being implemented at
colleges and universities. So far, no one seems to be batting an eye (unless
they read this, of course). The issue of electronic reserves is discussed
at length by Harper.
Some questions to consider:
-
Will only students at a distance enrolled in the
course have access to the articles for that applicable course?
-
Will entry to the "virtual reserve room" (i.e., the web page
which links to the articles to be accessed) be password-protected?
-
Will there be a notice in the virtual reserve room that warns
against copyright infringement, identical to the notice that's routinely
found on photocopiers in the library?
-
Will the library have a system in place to flag staff that
the articles need to be removed from the web at the end of the term?
-
etc. etc. etc.
Go on to the next question.
