Sample Learning Objects
Think of a "learning object" as one exercise. Guidelines suggest that a learning object will take from 2 to 15 minutes, but that is reading time only. Doing the learning will often take much longer for students to prepare (e.g. by homework reading or using other learning objects to amass needed background knowledge) and to discuss and/or write questions.
Learning objects may use several files—such as photos, video, text, animations, clipart, spreadsheets, and databases. These only provide the data, however, and are not learning objects themselves. Pedagogy must be added. For instance, students may read a poem, but a learning object would be the poem AND the teacher’s questions about the poem.
