Civic Engagement refers to a broad motif that focuses on addressing issues of public concern through individual and collective actions. The term is often confused with service learning which functions as an extension of school curricula. Civic engagement can exist in many forms, including volunteerism, political advocacy, and organizational involvement. Common activities that reflect civic engagement include working in a soup kitchen, advocating healthy choices for youth, serving on the neighborhood association, writing letters to your elected officials, and voting.
