CARBON FOOTPRINT GOAL

USF Sustainability: Working together to preserve and protect all of God's creations To protect and conserve earth's natural resources and increase its longevity in order to preserve it for future generations

TIPS FOR BETTER SUSTAINABILITY

CONSERVING ELECTRICITY

  • Make sure to turn the lights off when you leave the room
  • Since devices, even when not being used, such as TVs and video game consoles can use electricity. Make sure to unplug any devices when not using them.
  • When possible use natural lights instead of turning on the lights.
  • Compact florescent light bulbs use up much more electricity than LED lights, change out any compact florescent light bulbs for LED lights.
CONSERVING WATER

  • When running a bath, plug the bathtub before turning on the water. When running a shower, instead of waiting for it to warm up, get in and let it warm up as you are in it.
  • Plug the sink when using and razor and reuse the water in the sink instead of from the faucet.
USING LESS PAPER

  • When printing, print a duplex or double sided pages.
  • Send people PDF and go digital rather than printing them and sending them to others.
  • Send e-cards
  • Use a whiteboard to record quick temporary notes instead of using sticky notes and notepads. If needing a list for shopping or other things, use digital lists in a tablet or smart phone
  • Recycle paper as much as possible
CONSERVING GAS

  • Seal cracks and leaks on doors and windows in order to save heat when it is cold out
  • Insulate pipes, walls, attic, crawl spaces, basement and floors, as well as ventilator ducts and water pipes that pass through unheated areas such as the garage, basement, and attic.

Cartridge World collects inkjet and toner cartridges from USF and the university uses it as a fundraiser for the recycling program on campus. USF accepts all types of cartridges. Bins are located in St. Albert's Hall (near the stairs).

Here is how it works:

  • Drop off your LaserJet cartridges in any of the two large plastic tubs located under the stairway in St. Albert's Hall - easy...
  • Drop off your Inkjet cartridges in the only cardboard box located in the north corner of the stairway in St. Albert's Hall - Please use available plastic bags for these cartridges.

To learn more about Cartridge World, go to www.cartridgeworldusa.com. Lots of information about recycling cartridges and the benefits is available, as well as the location of stores and fundraising opportunities.
