Bishop Joseph L. Imesch Award for "Excellence in Teaching"

Jeanne Bell

St. Philip the Apostle School

Recipient Jeanne Bell, a teacher at St. Philip the Apostle School in Addison for sixteen years, is a model for excellence in teaching and service in the educational community as well as a Christian role model among students, faculty and administration. In addition to teaching, Bell serves as school librarian and encourages service projects. Each year, she writes and directs a play about the life of a saint that is presented on All Saints Day. Jeanne also serves as lector, Eucharistic minister and as a moderator of the school service group. Principal Denise Sedlak, along with St. Philip faculty and staff, made the nomination.

According to Ms Sedlak, "It is clear that Jeanne approaches teaching as a ministry as she daily models Christ-like values. She shows a genuine concern and caring for each of her students and relates to them in a most positive affirming manner. The children she works with are empowered to become actively involved in their learning through a variety of learning experiences. She patiently works with challenged learners, fostering creativity and critical thinking skills. As a very dedicated Catholic educator, she demonstrates that all students can be successful, and she provides opportunities to insure that success."
