Mrs. Libby Lee, embodies the College of Education's conceptual framework through her student-centered approach to teaching and learning, service to the community, and exemplary professionalism. Libby is an art teacher in the Channahon School District and an instructor for the "Fine Arts Education" course in the undergraduate elementary education program at the University of St. Francis. She is an excellent teacher who is passionate about her subject. To quote one of her students, "Mrs. Lee is an outstanding teacher who brings enthusiasm to all of her lessons". Last summer Libby brought increased authenticity to her course as she coordinated COE's first-ever summer arts camp. Libby created a structure that allowed candidates to provide learning experiences in the arts to local school-aged children. The camp was extremely successful with over 40 children participating. Libby is not only an excellent instructor, but a dedicated professional as well. In the fall of 2003, St Joseph's parish needed volunteers to work in the "arts and crafts" tent for their Family Octoberfest fundraiser. Not only did Libby arrange for some candidates to volunteer, but she spent the entire day there too. The success of the event was only possible because Libby and the candidates were willing to sacrifice an entire Saturday from their fall break and provide service to the community. Another significant contribution Libby has made to the College of Education is the display of student artwork at COE's Twin Oaks campus. Libby personally arranged to have her students' art brought to Twin Oaks and also participated in the young artists reception where the students and their families discussed their projects. |
