William "Buck" Orenic served as the College of Education Field Experience Coordinator for 4 years. Buck truly embodied the conceptual framework through his student-centered approach to teaching and learning, service to the community, and professionalism. Buck was a servant leader who put the needs of the children he served above all else. Prior to coming to USF, Buck had a distinguished 40 year career serving as an educator in the Troy and Channahon Schools taking on various roles including teacher, coach, administrator, and board member. While at Troy, Buck was a key partner in the development of COE's Elementary Education methods field experience block. To this day, the block experience remains the hallmark of the teacher preparation programs at USF. In every role he assumed, he demonstrated loyalty, respect, and caring for all his students and colleagues. During his tenure at USF Buck provided faithful leadership that earned the respect of the educational community. In keeping with our patron saint, Francis, he spoke often of compassion and service on behalf of the less fortunate. Buck initiated several professional development programs for supervisors, and he made significant contributions to the college as a standing member of the Curriculum Committee and the Professional Standards Board. He was instrumental in the successful opening and operating of the Twin Oaks Campus while at the same time maintaining high visibility at the Wilcox campus. Buck was a strong advocate for education at all levels. He loved USF and always served our students faithfully. All of us at USF were privileged to have worked with him and are proud to pay tribute to him with the College of Education’s “Outstanding Contribution Award”. |
