Mrs. Carol Sossong, embodies COE's conceptual framework through her student-centered approach to teaching and learning, service to the community, and exemplary professionalism. Carol, who is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum in Joliet Elementary School District 86, is a "life-long learner" and has established an impressive career as a teacher and as an administrator. She is the chief architect of Joliets comprehensive professional development program for all its teachers. She consistently strives to fulfill the District 86 mission to, "create a safe and positive environment in which all students will learn and develop to their greatest potential". Carol is also the primary coordinating force behind the community wide Joliet Reads! Program, which promotes the joy of reading for all ages, encourages reading as a family activity, and fosters partnerships within the Joliet community to promote and support literacy programs. Carol has been instrumental in forging the successful USF/District 86 partnership. She has been a key collaborator in the development of COE's Bridge Program in Joliet that allows USF teacher candidates to complete a 2-semester internship in a school while cooperating teachers participate in a mentoring course. She is also a leader in COE's Professional Development School initiative with Farragut Elementary School where candidates and teachers work together to enhanced student learning. During her tenure at District 86 she has provided the leadership that has earned the respect of the educational community. In keeping with USF's patron saint, Francis, she continually speaks out on behalf of the less fortunate and garners resources to support the under-served. |
