Congratulations to the College of Education's Regional Education Academy for Leadership (REAL) for being recognized by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) for the Plainfield Induction Program.

Illinois' higher education institutions and agencies are asked to submit "effective practices" to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) annually as a component of the institutional performance report. In recognition of innovative strategies shared through this process, effective practices from four unique entities are highlighted monthly on IBHE's Website. Our Plainfield Induction Program will be highlighted as of March 15, 2007.

This unique and effective program was also previously honored by the Illinois Association of Supervision, Curriculum and Development.

Congratulations to all those involved in this successful program and thank you for bringing this significant recognition to USF!

Duns Scotus Fellows & Scholars Program (as well as the History/Political Science Department) sponsors:

Feb. 7, 7:30 PM in the Rec. Center: Greg Mortenson, author of the NYT bestseller, Three Cups of Tea. Mortenson was a mountain-climber who found himself lost in alpine Pakistan. He stumbled into a remote village, where he was nursed back to health. Grateful for the care and concern of the villagers, he decided to do something to help. He found out quickly that they had no school building, and vowed to get one built. It was a much bigger project than he bargained for and he had incredible adventures and misadventures, but he got it done. He continues building schools in the region, and believes than in doing so, he is providing an alternative to radicals whose only education comes from Islamist madrassahs and is helping--one school at a time--to change the attitudes in the region and so to breed peace rather than terrorism.
