The College of Education is proud to announce the creation of The Electronic Journal of Teaching and Learning, beginning Spring 2004. The mission of the publication is to allow undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates, and the educational community, the opportunity to share their academic pursuits and research findings with others in the field of education. If you would like to have your work published in The Electronic Journal of Teaching and Learning, contact Sharon Wysoglad, Assistant Director of The Regional Academy for Educational Leadership, at swysoglad@stfrancis.edu, or (815) 740-5655. Submissions for the Spring 2004 publication are due December 15, 2003.

COE will celebrate the the Advanced Field Experience Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, December 11th at 5:30 in the President and Moes Room in Tower Hall. Congratulations to all teacher candidates, supervisors, cooperating teachers, and Principals who made an impact on the lives of many students.

The College of Education presented Mrs. Carol Sossong, Assistant Superintendent of Joliet Grade School District #86, with the Outstanding Contribution Award on December 11th during the Advanced Field Experience Appreciation Dinner. More...
 
 
December 6
Future Educators of America (FEA) will hold their December meeting in the Abbey of Marian Hall starting at 3:30. All Graduate and Undergraduate Education majors are welcome to attend.
 
 
November 20
Three Elementary education majors, Karen Stewart, Colette Jones, and Ann Marie Lerner, along with Mrs. Virginia Matthews, attended a conference titled, "Reading Instruction That Gets Results!" presented by Pat Cunningham.
 
 
November 19
Dr. John Gambro served as "Principal for a Day" at Farragut Elementary School and spent the day interacting with teachers and students. "I observed lessons in several classrooms and found the students engaged in a variety of well-planned learning activities. The students were highly motivated, polite, and intelligent. The teachers were extremely hard working and focused on creating the best possible learning experiences for each child in their classroom," commented Gambro. He also stated that, "Farragut is a community of learners where students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential. It was truly a pleasure to see a group of dedicated professionals successfully educating the children of our community."
 
November 13-16
Dr. Janet Lueck will be presenting at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Convention,in Washington, D.C. Her presentation is titled, "Dissertation Research: Three Outstanding Women Educators and The National Board Movement in Illinois." Dr. Lueck, who is a National Board Certified Teacher, is an Assistant Professor at the University of St. Francis, specializing in Early Adolescence and English Language Arts education.

 
November 10
The first "Young Artists Reception" was held honoring artists who have art on display at the Twin Oaks Campus. Artists and their families attended the reception and a splendid time was had by all. The artists and families truly appreciated the chance to celebrate their achievement. Congratulations to Sharon Wysoglad for her wonderful coordination of the event.

Teacher Candidates in EDUC 385 Methods of Science and Social Science, taught by Catherine Nelson, visited Isle A La Cache Museum in Romeoville, IL.

It is that time of year again and the Future Educators of America is having its annual taffy apple sale! Thursday from 11:00-1:00 outside of the cafeteria, we will be selling 4 different types of taffy apples. Hope to see you there!

 
 
Help the College of Education serve the community by donating a non-perishable food item. The collected food will be given to the Peter Claver Center in Joliet. They will make food baskets for families in Will County. Place your donation in any of the boxes on campus, including outside the COE office, before November 21, 2003.

Two COE members were honored at the University of St. Francis Employee Recognition Ceromony for their dedicated service to the University.

Dr. Joan Caton, Associate Professor for the College of Education, co-presented with Dr. Barbara Hudgens, a Waukegan school psychologist, at the Speech/Language Services Conference in Seattle, WA. The title of their presentation was "Identifying and Meeting the Needs of Bilingual Learners: Assessment, Methods, & Strategies."
