Driver – Athletic Events (BD)

The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution in Joliet, Illinois, invites applications for a Part-time Driver for Athletic Events at our main campus.  This position is available immediately.

USF offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs serving traditional-aged and adult students through a variety of learning formats.  The university is located in a residential neighborhood about 35 miles southwest of Chicago, and offers excellent recreational opportunities with access to the rich resources of the Chicago area.

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule:

Part-time, hourly position.  Hours vary, but do include weekends, nights, overnight trips and holidays.  This is an on-call position to drive for trips as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

To transport athletic personnel and student-athletes to various athletic venues using university-owned buses and vans.  Also, to perform routine maintenance checks on the vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate university passenger vehicles to transport athletic staff and student-athletes to and from athletic events.
  • Perform routine pre- and post-driving maintenance checks on the vehicles.  Report any concerns, problems, or faulty devices on the vehicle to athletic administration.
  • Conform to all transportation policies as established by the athletics department to create a safe environment for all passengers and the reliable, safe operation of all vehicles.
  • Adhere to all federal, state and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of passenger vans and buses.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:  Work is performed in and around a vehicle with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.  Substantial time is spent driving a vehicle.  This is sedentary work, which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Valid commercial driver’s license.
  • One to three years of commercial driving experience.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university.

Preferred:

  • Three to five years of commercial driving experience.
