Dean of Student Services (DSS#1)
The University of St. Francis is a Catholic, Franciscan institution, serving more than 4,300 students at locations throughout the nation. USF's main campus in Joliet, Ill. is located about 35 miles southwest of Chicago in a residential neighborhood and serves 1,300 students.
HOURS/SHIFT/WORK SCHEDULE: Regular office hours, some evenings and weekends required.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Dean of Student Services is responsible for the oversight and supervision of Career Development, Student Development, Residence Life, Student Government Association and also functions as the Chief Judicial Officer. The Dean of Student Services also assists the Provost and Academic Vice President in the overall management of the department and promotes all campus-based programs that contribute to an environment that fosters social, educational, and personal growth for all students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uphold and fulfill the mission, vision, values, and traditions of the University of St. Francis;
- Communicate the mission, vision and values of the university to students and employees;
- Provide leadership and management of all aspects of Career Development, Student Development and Residence Life;
- Establish and maintain an effective reporting structure with direct reports and to the Provost and Academic Vice President;
- Advise and counsel the Student Government Association;
- Function as the Chief Judicial Officer administering and overseeing Student Judicial Process;
- Maintain, Administer the University’s Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct;
- Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Diversity in developing and planning a series of programs throughout the school year that assist students in developing a broader understanding of diversity;
- Coordinate and oversee the execution of Freshmen and Transfer Student Orientation;
- Coordinate and oversee ongoing student leadership and development programs throughout the year;
- Develop programs and activities that are aimed at establishing a link with incoming
- Freshmen and transfer students in order to engage them in the life of the university
Community- Collaborate with the Director of University Ministry in providing opportunities for spiritual growth for all students;
- Take an active role in the retention efforts of the Student Affairs Department, Office of Institutional Diversity and the Retention Committee;
- Oversee and implement the Annual Commencement Banquet;
- Oversee departmental budgets;
- Develop and submit an annual budget to the Provost and Academic Vice-President;
- Carry out other assignments as designated by the Provost and Academic Vice-President.
- Collaborate with academics to achieve liberal education goals
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Masters degree in Student Personnel Administration or a related field from an accredited university as well as three to five years work experience in Student Affairs with successful experience in administration and programming. The Dean of Student Services evidences support for the mission, vision, values, and traditions of the University of St. Francis as well as a commitment to higher education. The position requires knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Windows 2000.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Doctorate in a related field is preferred with successful administrative experience in higher education.
