Financial Aid Services Counselor (FAC#3)

The University of St. Francis is a Catholic, Franciscan institution, serving more than 4,300 students at locations throughout the nation. USF's main campus in Joliet, Ill. is located about 35 miles southwest of Chicago in a residential neighborhood and serves 1,300 students.

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule: Standard office hours as required

POSITION SUMMARY: Primary responsibility is to assist and counsel new and continuing students on financial aid eligibility.  This position is also responsible for the review of files for completion of federal and state verification requirements and packaging of financial assistance according to USF policies and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Director with administration of Federal Direct Loan Programs.  Specific duties include: 
    1. Weekly loan processing reviewing applications, originations, disbursements, and revisions.
    2. Assist the COD processing center in resolving Direct Loan related issues.
    3. Reconciliation of Federal Direct Loan Program through the 30-day reports and promissory note manifest.
    4. Informing the Director of Financial Aid Services of all matters related to the processing of Federal Direct Loans as administered at USF.
  • Conduct entrance and exit counseling for new and graduating students. Primary contact for graduation lists provided for exit process.  
  • Assist in recruitment and admission for all programs at USF by participating in visit days, registration weekends, and student orientations as assigned by the Director.
  • Certification of alternative loan applications and counseling students regarding application process.
  • Assist secretary with incoming student traffic and telephone intake.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director or Associate Director of Financial Aid Services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a bachelor degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field.  Excellent counseling, writing, communication, and organizational skills are essential.  Must possess the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and organize required duties of the position.  Ability to interact and work successfully with other university personnel, parents, students, high school contacts, alumni, contacts from other colleges or universities, and other affiliates.  Working knowledge of personal computer applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prefer previous experience in a Financial Aid environment or in a higher education setting.
  • Master Degree in a related field

EVALUATION CRITERIA:  Assist in attainment of department and division goals through counseling and awarding of financial assistance to continuing and prospective students.  Responsible for timely and accurate processing with regards to all duties entailed above.
