Instructional Database Specialist (IDBS#1)
The University of St. Francis is a Catholic, Franciscan institution, serving more than 4,300 students at locations throughout the nation. USF's main campus in Joliet, Ill. is located about 35 miles southwest of Chicago in a residential neighborhood and serves 1,300 students.
HOURS/SHIFT/WORK SCHEDULE : Typical 40 hour week
POSITION SUMMARY: The position will support the daily operations of CID and the Information Technology by providing database management and programming support in the use of the university's course management system (CMS), staff training, and assist in the various student and faculty support efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the system maintenance and database programming to support the university's CMS.
- Maintain the CMS database including creating user accounts, creating courses, and updating enrollments.
- Assist with the integration of the university's databases to provide enhancements to the processes that support instruction.
- Process academic evaluations.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of CID web pages.
- Assist students and faculty with support in the use of the university's CMS.
- Assist with in-service training programs offered by CID.
- Participation in the weekend and evening support services for the online program
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will meet the following minimum job qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Information Systems , computer science or related field.
- Two years experience in database management and programming.
- Experience in usage, maintenance, installation, and performance tuning of Unix operating systems and associated server software (e.g., Apache, Tomcat, Sendmail, LDAP).
- Experience in creating and maintaining web pages knowledge of html coding, CSS design, and basic XLM knowledge.
- Experience using Microsoft SQL Server (or equivalent) and relational database design and development.
- Skills in SQL language and in designing and testing complex data extraction queries and reports from multiple data sources.
- Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, specifically Access.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem resolution skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience using an instructional course management system.
- Working knowledge of Oracle RDBMS and Oracle Based programming tools and languages (e.g., PLSQL, Forms, JDeveloper).
- Experience working in higher education, particularly with academic technology systems and services.
- Masters degree in Computer Science, Instructional Technology or related discipline.
