Assistant Professor (APRST#1)

The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution, invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism Management to start in August, 2008, at our campus in Joliet, IL.
The appointment is a nine (9) month tenure track position (pending final budget approval).
Position Description
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Teach undergraduate courses in the recreation administration core curriculum and specialization track courses in commercial recreation and tourism management.
- Actively participate in professional growth and scholarly activities, such as conference presentations and professional involvement; scholarly writing; student and faculty research projects; and grant proposal development.
- Provide service to the department, university, community, and the profession.
- Conduct advising of undergraduate students.
- Collaborate with area tourism and commercial recreation agencies to develop educational partnerships.
- Pursue funding for tourism projects and initiatives, and work closely with the tourism industry in its various forms (e.g. state and local area agencies) to promote the greater Chicago south suburban area ( Joliet and Will County ) as a tourism destination.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree with appropriate academic training in Recreation and Tourism, Hospitality Management, or specifically related field. (ABD will be given consideration.)
- Evidence of successful undergraduate teaching, scholarship, and professional experience.
- Evidence of the ability to teach courses in travel and tourism and the core curriculum.
