About the Encounter Online

The Encounter Online is a student-run online newspaper serving the University of St. Francis, 500 Wilcox Street, Joliet, IL 60435. The Encounter Online is an extension of the Encounter, the university’s student-run newspaper.

The Encounter is a monthly publication and the Encounter Online is updated after each issue is released.

As a member of the USF campus media, the Encounter strives to produce a publication that stresses quality writing and design.

The Encounter Online strives to distribute the news of the university to a larger, broader audience and provide additional features that cannot be offered in the paper-based Encounter; such as online polls, a student photo gallery and weather reports.

By reporting on issues, which may be sensitive in nature, the Encounter aims to educate, inform, and persuade students on topics that affect their lives on and off campus.

Articles and photos published in the Encounter are provided by students in the Newspaper Management, Writing Across the Media, Advanced News Writing, Applied Reporting and Basic Photography Classes, as well as by press releases from the university and community.

Editorial pages provide Encounter staff members with opportunities to express thoughtful views on Controversial topics. Letters to the editor and guest columns represent the opinion of the author and are not necessarily opinions of the Encounter staff.

Publications of letters to the editor are subject to space availability and management discretion. Letters to the editor are also subject to editing.

Letter to the editor; questions, comments and concerns about the Encounter or Encounter Online; or any other submissions, may be dropped off at the Encounter office, located in room S413E of Tower Hall, or e-mailed to encounter@stfrancis.edu.
