| When a young man named Osman inherited the small
Emirate of Sogut in 1290, few could have imagined his name would later
be synonymous with one of the most significant empires in world history.
Osman's successors would go on to conquer the remnants of the Byzantine
Empire in 1453, lay siege to the Central European City of Vienna twice,
and play a pivotal role in world politics until the 20th century.
Although the empire ceased to be in 1922, the Ottomans' legacies continue
to live on in many ways. |
