European History Classes

In the last few years, I have taught a number of courses overseas. This year I was involved in a University of St. Francis trip to Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Above is a picture of me and some of the students in front of the Hofburg palace (the seat of the Habsburgs) in Vienna. One of the people on this trip was an artist, and she sketched me one day as I was talking to the group on the bus.

The picture on the right is of some of us doing the "funky chicken" at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich--another embarrassing moment!!

On the left: On the USF Spring 1998 Rome trip sponsored by Dr. Aurelie Hagstrom, I led a tour through the Forum Romanum.

At right: a group picture in the Forum.

The picture on the left is from the summer of 1997, when I taught history on one of Eastern Michigan University's European Cultural History Tours. It's of me and some of the students (left to right: Ken, me, Alisha, Allie, Ben and Monica) on the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower.

Imagine, backpacking around Europe for six weeks, having fun, and learning all sorts of great stuff like history and art! That's what the trip was all about. Right: a picture of our "hostel" at Bacharach, Germany--an old castle overlooking the Rhine River.

We had classes in very interesting places: boats, trains, hostels, outdoors (in all kinds of weather), etc.

Some of my very good friends: the students (back row, left to right: Meghan, Monica, Karen, Dana, Ramona, Christine, Wendy, Benita [the art instructor], Karen; front row, left to right: Alisha, Michelle, and Allie) at Le Hameau, Marie Antoinette's "English peasant village" at Versailles.

And here I am just "clowning around" in Europe with the infamous "fun foto" machines (and you thought I wouldn't dare put it online!!).
