Overview of Program

The Political Science program is designed 1) to give students background in a liberal arts discipline in order that they might better learn to understand and analyze issues concerning government and politics at the local, national. and international level, and to develop skills and habits for lifelong learning; and 2) to prepare students for their chosen vocation (law school, graduate school, careers in government, law enforcement, journalism, etc.).

USF Interns

The USF political science program offers majors an opportunity to become interns as part of their senior capstone experience. Over the years, USF students have been offered internship positions at the House, Senate, the White House, local governments, law enforcement agencies and a variety of law offices.

Pi Sigma Alpha

Are you interested in political science? Do you have good grades (a 3.0 or higher)? Consider joining Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. This honor society, founded in 1920, was formed to "stimulate scholarship and intelligent interest in political science." USF has its own local chapter--Upsilon Epsilon. USF students are inducted annually into this society. The chapter sponsors paper competitions and an annual trip to the Midwest Political Science Association Meeting held in Chicago.

There are 430 chapters of Pi Sigma Alpha nationwide. By joining one is granted recognition of academic excellence in political science, is given a forum for scholarly activities and is eligible for awards for best graduate and undergraduate papers.
