Fall 2007 has seen Elizabeth and American Gangster on our screens so far, the latter to great box office, the former, well, not so much.

Coming in December is Charlie Wilson's War, a star-studded interpretation of George Crile's best-selling book. Tom Hanks stars as Charlie Wilson, the brash Texas congressman who in the 1980s helped secure aid for the Afghani mujahideen in defeating the Soviets. Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman also star. Here's the synopsis and trailer from Comingsoon.net

Also in December we have the goofy-but-fun National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Don't expect much actual history from this one; just enjoy the spectacle of swashbuckling history geeks. Here's the synopsis and trailer from Comingsoon.net

Late winter and spring are often barren times for good historical films, but early 2008 has at least two that look interesting. In late February comes The Other Boleyn Girl. Here's the plot synopsis from Comingsoon.net: "A sumptuous and sensual tale of intrigue, romance and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in European history, 'The Other Boleyn Girl' tells the story of two beautiful sisters, Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) Boleyn who, driven by their family's blind ambition, compete for the love of the handsome and passionate King Henry VIII (Eric Bana). While both women eventually share the king's bed, only one will ascend to the throne for a brief and turbulent reign that ends tragically with a swing of the executioner's sword."

Another intriguing one is Leatherheads, which is scheduled to open April 4. Starring George Clooney (who also directs) John Krasinski, and Renee Zellweger, the film focuses on the early years of pro football in the 1920s.
