Thomas Register - Searches over 124,000 product names and 155,000 companies in the United States and Canada. Requires registration, but membership is free.
EDGAR Database - EDGAR, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, "performs automated collection, validation, indexing, acceptance, and forwarding of submissions by companies and others who are required by law to file forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)." Find full copies of 10-k reports here.
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission - The SEC home page provides access to the EDGAR database as well as information about the commission and its practices. Other useful topics include small business information, links to other security exchanges and associations, and SEC news digests and public statements.
NAICS (North American Industrial Classification System) - The NAICS classification system replaced the SIC (Standard Industrial Classification system) in 1997 (although, SIC is still commonly found). The new scheme reflects adoption of the North American Free Trade Agreement and was primarily altered to provide comparable industry statistics across the three NAFTA countries (the United States, Mexico, and Canada).
