Information Literacy
How do I attain it?

Information literacy can be attained in many ways and in many areas of life. In the academic environment, specifically at USF, the attainment of a high level of information literacy can be achieved by:

  1. Visiting the Library and familiarizing yourself with its layout.
  2. Visiting the Library's web site to acquaint yourself with its basic content and structure.
  3. Talking to a reference librarian to learn about resources both online and in-house that are applicable to your field of study.
  4. Attending a more detailed session with a reference librarian to learn how to create search strategies that will ensure that the information you find is relevant.
  5. Carefully evaluating the information that's collected to ensure reliability and to find discrepancies that may jeopardize your research.

Now that we understand the concept of Information Literacy, why it's important and how to attain it, let's go to the next page to begin the process of raising your personal level of information literacy by learning about common library resources.
