One of the many services offered by an academic library is assistance in locating information on the Web through tutorials, tip sheets and personalized instruction with staff librarians. Librarians can help you in choosing the correct words to use in your search and/or teach you how to limit your results to only those that have a high probability of being reliable.

Another way academic libraries help you locate information is by offering verified links to reliable websites and web access to subscribed journal and magazine databases discussed previously in this module.

You may find that instructors tend to set limits on how much information can be obtained from the Web. In the majority of cases, they are referring to documents that can be freely accessed through the web. Information obtained through subscribed journal and magazine databases are not considered web resources.

Now that we have been introduced to the many resources available through the library, go to the next page to learn how to search these resources for the information we need.
