Boolean Logic - AND

Because of the large amount of information available through online catalogs and databases, students should have a basic understanding of how to limit their search results. Without the ability to limit effectively limit searches, a student may find themselves overwhelmed by information. Most databases and online catalogs use Boolean logic to search their content. Boolean logic uses operators such as AND, OR, NOT and * to either broaden or narrow your results. The following demonstrates how these common operators function:

The operator AND will narrow your search because it will search only for items that include all terms. For example, the search cats AND dogs will only result in items that contain both terms.
